Do you ever get trapped in condemning and berating yourself for past mistakes? And every mistake is in the past, isn't it? If so, can you remind yourself that the person you were yesterday did not have the understanding and experience you have today? Can you be gentler with that less experienced version of yourself?

The person you are today is creating the person you will be tomorrow. Picture yourself into the future, thinking back to now, blaming and criticizing yourself as you are today. Would you like to be condemned and criticized by your future self? This is what we are doing when we look at our past self with contempt.

The future grows from today. Today you have the possibility to forgive yourself for past mistakes, learn from them, and move forward. Today you can create a better life for your future self. The angels lovingly suggest that you not wallow in the murky swamp of regret. Wouldn't you rather step out of that swamp, take a shower, put on fresh clothes, and step confidentially into the present moment? 

It is better to be disliked for who you are than to be liked for who you are not! How much easier to be authentic! What a relief just to be. How clear. How simple. How honest. How real. Because the only thing you really have to share with anyone, anyway, is your own state of being. 

The peace of your own being is a wonderful gift to share with others. Many people want to help uplift the world, but live in such anxiety that this is what they end up sharing. We can uplift the world only to the degree that we, ourselves, live expansive, uplifted lives. 

If you have the habit of condemning and berating yourself for what has happened in the past, you may want to take another look at your way of living. You may want to make a commitment to release stress and generate more peace in your daily life. If you are consistent in your commitment, you will reap many benefits.
